Keoki Kim, originally from South Kohala, Hawaii came to Alaska in 1994 after he graduated from Vermont Law School with his Juris Doctor and a Masters in Environmental Law. He passed the bar in February of 1995. In October of 1995, he started a general practice, JOHNSON & KIM, PC with his friend and mentor, Brent A. Johnson, who passed away in 2003.
Keoki ran a general practice that was focused on helping people resolve problems in the areas of Adoption, Bankruptcy, Child Support, Corporations, Criminal, Custody, Divorce, Landlord/Tenant, Trusts and Wills. The firm focused on providing excellent communication with clients, excellent work product and an emphasis on minimizing costs. The firm was one of the first in Alaska to go paperless. And then 100% remote.
In 2018, Keoki closed the practice to move back to Hawaii and spend time with his youngest children before they graduated from High School. Keoki helped raise 4 stepchildren and 2 children adopted from overseas. Keoki’s 4 sons are serving in the Air Force and the Army. Keoki’s 2 daughters work in the private sector. They are his greatest joy.
After Keoki’s children graduated from High School, he returned to Alaska in 2021 and focused on community service by serving as the Human Rights Attorney for the Alaska State Commission on Human Rights. Keoki then went on to serve as Executive Director of the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission.
After doing 5 years of community service, Keoki has returned to private practice to focus on mentoring younger attorneys at Carlson Law Group and providing high quality legal service based upon 31 years of experience. Keoki joined Carlson Law Group specifically because of its priority on helping people in our community with their legal problems in a cost-effective, genuinely caring manner. This is not just a business. It is a group of people who want to help others in the especially stressful and confusing area known as The Law.
In his free time, Keoki works on old trucks and motorcycles, does construction, and builds incredibly complex aquarium systems so that he has a little bit of Hawaii with him at home.
